Remote | Buy-Side Investment Research Consultant — $130–$150/hour
Job Description:
We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for investment professionals experienced in public markets research, equity analysis, investment thesis development, financial modeling, valuation, and structured institutional research workflows.
This role supports current and upcoming remote consulting opportunities focused on structured investment research review, public markets analysis, valuation assessment, investment thesis evaluation, risk review, and high-quality project execution. Selected professionals will apply their buy-side research expertise to review realistic investment scenarios, evaluate financial assumptions and market reasoning, prepare structured written outputs, and support accurate, evidence-based investment research tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Professionals in this role may contribute to:
Investment Thesis & Public Markets Research
- Develop or review detailed investment theses across equities, sectors, asset classes, or public market opportunities
- Evaluate company fundamentals, market positioning, catalysts, risks, valuation drivers, and investment assumptions
- Support structured review of research notes, sector analysis, company writeups, and investment recommendation materials
- Identify gaps in reasoning, missing context, unsupported assumptions, and expected research outcomes
Financial Modeling & Valuation Review
- Review financial models, valuation analyses, scenario outputs, comparable company analysis, and investment case materials
- Evaluate valuation conclusions against source data, model assumptions, operating drivers, market benchmarks, and documented criteria
- Support structured review of DCF models, earnings models, sensitivity tables, valuation summaries, and investment memos
- Prepare clear written explanations for valuation and investment decisions based on source materials and verifiable criteria
Research Quality & Risk Assessment
- Review investment research outputs for clarity, usefulness, accuracy, and decision relevance
- Evaluate risk analysis, downside scenarios, competitive dynamics, sector exposure, and market assumptions
- Support structured feedback on research quality, recommendation logic, and investment decision frameworks
- Maintain accuracy, consistency, and professional judgment across submitted work
Ideal Profile
Strong candidates may have:
- 4–8 years of experience in equity research, hedge funds, asset management, investment management, private wealth, family office investing, or related public markets roles
- Strong background in fundamental analysis, idea generation, valuation, financial modeling, and investment memo development
- Experience covering specific sectors, asset classes, geographies, or investment strategies
- Familiarity with tools such as Excel, Bloomberg, Capital IQ, FactSet, PitchBook, Koyfin, Refinitiv, company filings, earnings transcripts, or similar research platforms
- Comfort reading and preparing investment artifacts such as research reports, financial models, investment memos, valuation summaries, thesis notes, and risk assessments
- Strong written communication skills and ability to explain complex investment views clearly
- Ability to follow structured instructions and produce evidence-based work
Educational Background
- A degree or professional background in finance, economics, accounting, business administration, mathematics, statistics, investment management, or a related quantitative field is helpful
- Equivalent practical experience in equity research, buy-side investing, asset management, public markets research, or financial modeling is also highly relevant
Nice to Have
- CFA, MBA, CAIA, FRM, or equivalent investment research credential
- Experience with alternative data, systematic strategies, factor analysis, portfolio research, or data-driven investment workflows
- Prior exposure to AI, machine learning, automation, or research tooling in finance
- Experience mentoring junior analysts, reviewing investment work, or contributing senior domain judgment to research processes
- Strong attention to detail in model-heavy, research-heavy, and risk-focused investment environments
