Remote | Insurance Underwriting Review Consultant — $75–$105/hour
Job Description:
We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for professionals experienced in insurance underwriting, submission review, risk assessment, pricing documentation, and structured underwriting workflow analysis.
This role supports current and upcoming remote consulting opportunities focused on structured underwriting review, insurance workflow analysis, submission assessment, documentation review, scenario development, and high-quality project execution. Selected professionals will apply their underwriting expertise to review realistic insurance scenarios, evaluate risk and documentation requirements, prepare structured written outputs, and support accurate, evidence-based underwriting workflow tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Professionals in this role may contribute to:
Submission Intake & Risk Triage
- Review underwriting scenarios involving submission intake, appetite guidelines, risk classification, referral thresholds, and underwriting triage workflows
- Assess submission packages for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with defined underwriting requirements
- Support structured review of referral memos, senior underwriting escalation scenarios, and risk classification decisions
- Identify missing documentation, required information, procedural steps, and expected next actions
Risk Assessment, Rating & Pricing Support
- Review exposure analysis materials, rating manual references, pricing calculations, quote preparation workflows, and underwriting documentation
- Evaluate underwriting scenarios involving risk assessment, quote development, pricing support, surplus lines processing, and state-specific requirements
- Prepare clear written explanations for underwriting decisions based on provided materials and defined criteria
- Support structured review of commercial, specialty, personal lines, E&S, or related underwriting workflows
Issuance, Brokerage & Documentation Review
- Review bind documentation, issuance preparation materials, broker correspondence, quote letters, referral memos, and risk reports
- Evaluate underwriting files against documented rules, workflow expectations, and required-document checklists
- Create structured review criteria based on verifiable underwriting facts and source materials
- Maintain accuracy, consistency, and professional judgment across submitted work
Ideal Profile
Strong candidates may have:
- 3+ years of experience in commercial, specialty, personal lines, E&S, or related underwriting work at a carrier, MGA, wholesale broker, retail broker, or insurance organization
- Experience with one or more lines of business such as property, general liability, professional liability, workers compensation, cyber, specialty lines, personal lines, or commercial package underwriting
- Strong understanding of submission review, appetite guidelines, risk classification, rating manuals, quote preparation, referral memos, bind documentation, or underwriting decision workflows
- Familiarity with underwriting platforms such as Duck Creek, Guidewire, carrier systems, broker systems, or similar tools
- Comfort reading and preparing underwriting artifacts such as submission packages, risk reports, quote letters, referral memos, bind documentation, broker correspondence, and issuance materials
- Strong written communication skills and ability to explain underwriting reasoning clearly
- Ability to follow structured instructions and produce evidence-based work
Educational Background
- A degree or professional background in insurance, risk management, business administration, finance, economics, legal studies, underwriting, or a related field is helpful
- Equivalent practical experience in underwriting, brokerage, risk assessment, insurance documentation, or underwriting workflow review is also highly relevant
Nice to Have
- Experience with surplus lines, E&S processing, broker relationship management, or specialty underwriting workflows
- Experience reviewing rating manuals, risk reports, quote letters, referral documentation, or underwriting files
- Familiarity with commercial lines, personal lines, specialty lines, workers compensation, cyber, professional liability, or property underwriting
- Professional insurance credentials such as CPCU, AU, ARM, AINS, or equivalent
- Strong attention to detail in documentation-heavy underwriting environments
