Job Description:

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for professionals experienced in energy systems, power grid planning, transmission operations, distribution infrastructure, utility asset management, and structured energy system analysis.

This role supports current and upcoming remote consulting opportunities focused on structured energy infrastructure review, transmission planning analysis, grid operations assessment, power flow simulation review, distribution asset evaluation, and high-quality project execution. Selected professionals will apply their energy systems expertise to review realistic grid and utility scenarios, evaluate technical requirements, prepare structured written outputs, and support accurate, evidence-based energy infrastructure workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Professionals in this role may contribute to:

Transmission Planning & Grid Expansion Review

  • Review energy system scenarios involving transmission expansion planning, load growth, capacity needs, grid constraints, interconnection impacts, and long-range infrastructure planning
  • Evaluate transmission planning materials against source data, reliability criteria, system assumptions, congestion patterns, and infrastructure requirements
  • Support structured review of planning studies, grid expansion recommendations, scenario analyses, and investment prioritization materials
  • Identify planning gaps, assumption issues, reliability considerations, and expected transmission planning outcomes

Transmission Operations & Power Flow Analysis

  • Review transmission operations scenarios involving power flow simulations, contingency analysis, system limits, operating constraints, reliability events, and grid performance
  • Evaluate operational materials against simulation outputs, dispatch assumptions, technical standards, and documented system conditions
  • Support structured review of power flow studies, operating notes, reliability assessments, grid operations documentation, and system analysis materials
  • Prepare clear written explanations for energy system decisions based on source materials and verifiable technical criteria

Distribution Asset Management & Field Inspection Support

  • Review distribution system scenarios involving asset condition, field inspection records, maintenance planning, equipment performance, and infrastructure reliability
  • Evaluate inspection findings, asset records, distribution planning materials, and maintenance priorities against documented condition data and risk indicators
  • Support structured review of field reports, asset management records, work plans, reliability summaries, and distribution infrastructure documentation
  • Maintain accuracy, consistency, and professional judgment across submitted work

Ideal Profile

Strong candidates may have:

  • Experience in power systems, transmission planning, grid operations, distribution engineering, utility asset management, field inspection, energy consulting, or related energy infrastructure roles
  • Background in one or more areas such as transmission expansion planning, transmission operations, power flow simulation, distribution asset management, field inspection, grid reliability, or utility planning
  • Familiarity with power system workflows involving load flow studies, contingency analysis, reliability planning, asset condition assessment, maintenance planning, or infrastructure prioritization
  • Comfort reading and preparing energy infrastructure artifacts such as planning studies, power flow outputs, grid operation notes, inspection reports, asset management records, reliability assessments, and infrastructure plans
  • Strong analytical thinking and written communication skills
  • Ability to translate energy infrastructure workflows into clear, structured task documentation

Educational Background

  • A degree or professional background in electrical engineering, power systems engineering, energy systems, utility engineering, infrastructure planning, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field is helpful
  • Equivalent practical experience in transmission planning, distribution systems, grid operations, utility asset management, field inspection, or energy infrastructure review is also highly relevant

Nice to Have

  • Experience at an electric utility, ISO/RTO, transmission owner, distribution utility, energy consultancy, grid operator, engineering firm, or infrastructure organization
  • Familiarity with power flow simulation tools, transmission planning studies, distribution asset inspection, reliability standards, field maintenance workflows, or grid modernization work
  • Experience preparing or reviewing transmission expansion plans, power flow studies, field inspection records, distribution asset reports, maintenance plans, or grid reliability materials
  • PE license, power systems coursework, utility certifications, grid planning credentials, or energy infrastructure training is helpful
  • Strong attention to detail in technical, infrastructure-heavy, and reliability-focused energy environments

Why This Opportunity

  • Apply energy systems and power grid expertise to structured remote project work
  • Contribute to high-quality transmission planning review, power flow analysis, distribution asset assessment, and energy infrastructure documentation
  • Work on flexible assignments aligned with your energy systems background
  • Use your grid and infrastructure judgment in a focused, detail-oriented review environment
  • Remote structure with competitive hourly compensation

Contract Details

  • Independent contractor role
  • Fully remote with flexible scheduling
  • Part-time commitment depending on project availability
  • Competitive rates between $65–$115 per hour depending on expertise
  • Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise
  • Projects may be extended, shortened, or adjusted depending on scope and performance
  • Work will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution
